Admissions

Beginning your child's journey is simple.

We welcome new families throughout the year, and we've made joining MIMS as warm and effortless as the school itself. Here's how it works — and we're with you at every step.

MIMS (Maria International Montessori School) is an authentic international Montessori school and premium day care in Borupana, Ratmalana, Sri Lanka, for children aged 2½–12.

A family being warmly welcomed to MIMS.

The admission process

Five gentle steps

  1. 1

Get in touch. Send a quick enquiry, call, or message us on WhatsApp. We'll reply warmly and promptly, answer your questions, and help you find a good time to visit.

  2. 2

Visit and tour. Come and feel the difference in person — see the environment, watch the children at work, and meet the team. There's no better way to know if MIMS is right for your family.

  3. 3

Meet your child. We'll spend a little gentle time getting to know your child and understanding their needs. It's warm and relaxed — a conversation, never an exam.

  4. 4

Offer and enrolment. If MIMS is the right fit, we'll guide you through a clear, simple enrolment with a beautifully prepared admission pack — clarity at every step, paperwork made painless.

  5. 5

Welcome and settle in. We plan a calm, gradual start for your child, with named introductions and constant reassurance — so the first days feel safe and happy for everyone.

Requirements & eligibility

What you'll need

Eligibility is simple: our Montessori programme welcomes children aged 2½ to 5, and our Day Care programme cares for children from 2½ to 12. Enrolment is open to children of all backgrounds, nationalities, and faiths — every family is welcome here.

The process itself is refreshingly simple. There's no entrance exam and no long list of paperwork — just two gentle steps: a short enquiry form to tell us about your family, and a relaxed meeting where we get to know your child. We'll warmly guide you through everything else.

We keep fees off the website on purpose. We'd far rather you came to visit, felt the difference in person, and talked things through with us — and we're always happy to discuss the options, including the enrolment offers we run from time to time.

The school visit

Come and see for yourself

A visit is the heart of the process — and the moment most families simply know. You'll experience the calm of the environment, see real Montessori learning in action, meet the educators who would care for your child, and have all the time you need to ask questions. There's no pressure and no sales pitch — just a warm, honest welcome and the chance to picture your child here.

Getting to know your child

A meeting, not a test

Parents sometimes worry about an 'assessment'. Please don't. There is no entrance exam and no pass or fail. We simply spend a little relaxed time with your child so we can understand them — their personality, their stage, and how best to help them settle and thrive. It's gentle, friendly, and entirely about getting the start right for your child.

Next steps

Ready when you are

Because places in our small, caring groups are limited, we always recommend getting in touch early — especially for your preferred start date. Whether you're ready to apply or simply want to look around first, the next step is the same and it's an easy one: say hello.

Frequently asked questions

Admissions, answered

When can we apply?

Any time. We welcome new families throughout the year, so you're not tied to a single intake. That said, places in our small groups are limited, so earlier is always better for your preferred start date.

What ages can join?

Children aged 2½ to 5 for our Montessori programme, and 2½ to 12 for Day Care — so siblings of different ages can join together.

Is there an entrance test?

No. There's no exam and no pass or fail — just a gentle, friendly meeting so we can get to know your child and help them settle well.

What do we need to provide?

A completed application and a few basic documents. Get in touch and we'll send you a simple, friendly checklist so nothing is confusing or onerous.

What are the fees?

Please contact us for current fees and what they include. We're happy to talk you through the options clearly and without pressure.

Can my child start mid-year?

Yes. Because we admit year-round, children can usually begin when the timing suits your family, subject to availability.

How does settling-in work?

Gently and gradually. We plan a calm transition with named introductions and plenty of reassurance, so your child — and you — feel secure from the very first days.

Begin your application

Tell us a little about your family, and we'll be in touch soon. There are no wrong questions.

Your details are kept private and used only to respond to you. We'll never share them.

A member of our admissions team will be in touch personally to guide you through the next steps.

Come and feel the difference for yourself

The best way to understand MIMS is to stand inside it — to feel the calm, watch the children at work, and meet the people who will care for your child. We warmly invite you to visit. Admissions are open throughout the year, and we would love to welcome your family.
