MIMS (Maria International Montessori School) is an authentic international Montessori school and premium day care in Borupana, Ratmalana, Sri Lanka, for children aged 2½–12.

In Montessori, the environment is sometimes called the child's 'third teacher' — and once you've felt one, you understand why. Everything is intentional: low shelves a child can reach, real materials beautifully arranged, gentle order, and room to breathe. The calm you feel on walking in isn't decoration; it's how children are helped to concentrate, choose, and grow independent.

Calm, beautiful, child-scaled classrooms
Our classrooms are built entirely around the child. Everything is at their height and within their reach, laid out in clear, inviting order on low open shelves. The materials are real and lovely, and cared for meticulously — which teaches children, gently, to care for them too. Natural light, soft natural surfaces, plants, and uncluttered space create rooms that feel serene rather than busy: places where a child can settle, focus, and feel at ease.
Outdoor & natural environment
Rooted in nature
Connection to nature runs right through a MIMS childhood. Outdoor time is part of every day, not a reward at the end of it — fresh air, natural play, and the simple wonder of watching things grow. Natural materials, plants, and daylight are woven through our spaces because children are calmer, more focused, and happier when nature is close. It's one of the quiet ways the MIMS promise — 'rooted in nature' — is lived rather than just said.

Safe and secure, by design
Nothing reassures a parent more, so safety is designed into the environment itself. Secure, controlled entry and departure. Clear sightlines so children are always within a caring adult's view. Small, well-supervised groups. Child-safe fittings, furniture, and materials throughout. Safety here is felt as calm and care — never as a fortress — so children feel free and parents feel certain.

- A cosy corner for calm and stories, with soft textures and warm light — a space built for slowing down.
- Dining area
- Clean, homely, and unhurried, at child height. As MIMS doesn't provide meals, this is where children share their own home-cooked food in a relaxed, social setting.

- Safe, soft, natural-material spaces for movement and play — warm underfoot, never plastic-bright.
- Outdoor play & garden
- A signature of the school. Fresh air and natural play are part of every day, not a reward at the end of it — with growing spaces that let children watch things take root.
