Our Teachers

Meet the people who will know your child by name.

A school is only ever as good as its people. Ours are warm, deeply skilled, and genuinely devoted to children — the kind of educators you wish you'd had yourself.

MIMS (Maria International Montessori School) is an authentic international Montessori school and premium day care in Borupana, Ratmalana, Sri Lanka, for children aged 2½–12.

The heart of the school

Guides, not instructors

A Montessori educator does something subtler, and harder, than 'teaching' in the ordinary sense. They observe each child closely, prepare exactly the right materials, and step in at exactly the right moment — to spark interest, to offer a gentle next step, and then to step back so the child can do the real, satisfying work of learning for themselves. They lead from beside the child, not above them.

We don't pour knowledge in. We help children draw their own out.

Qualifications & training

Skilled in the method, chosen for the heart

Our educators are trained in the Montessori method and the science of early childhood — but we choose them for warmth as much as for skill, because both matter enormously in these years. A great guide combines real expertise with patience, kindness, and a genuine delight in children. That rare combination is what we look for, and what your child feels every day.

Across the team, our teachers hold qualifications in preschool education, the Montessori method, primary education, and early childhood development — and together they bring more than 40 years of Montessori teaching experience to the children in their care.

Steady, experienced hands

There is no substitute for experience with young children — knowing how to settle a tearful newcomer, when to encourage and when to wait, how to turn a small frustration into a moment of growth. Our educators bring exactly this calm, practised judgement to every day, so your child is in steady, capable, loving hands from the very first morning.

Always growing, just like the children

The best educators never stop learning, and we invest in ours. Through ongoing training and professional development, our team keeps deepening its practice and staying close to the best of early-childhood education. A school that keeps growing is a school that keeps getting better for your child.

Care you can feel

Beneath every qualification is the thing that matters most: our educators genuinely love what they do, and genuinely love children. It shows in the warmth at the door each morning, the patience with a hard moment, and the delight in a child's small triumph. This is the difference parents feel the instant they walk in — and it is the truest measure of the care your child will receive.

Every child, truly seen

Because we keep our groups deliberately small and our guides observe so closely, no child is ever lost in the crowd. Each one is known — their pace, their interests, their needs, their name. Learning is shaped around the individual child rather than the other way around, and every family can feel certain that their child is seen, understood, and cared for as a whole person.

Come and feel the difference for yourself

The best way to understand MIMS is to stand inside it — to feel the calm, watch the children at work, and meet the people who will care for your child. We warmly invite you to visit. Admissions are open throughout the year, and we would love to welcome your family.
